Questions without answers, yet

The hours after Lee proposed and I accepted, left me in a period of reverie. All I could do was blog an entry about our relationship declaration ceremony and his proposal, email a few of my girlfriends, think about calling my dad and stare at my laptop, blankly. It took me a while to realise,

this is the time we begin planning for the wedding.
That was a rather surreal shock, honestly. Because, until that moment, I'd been merely toying with wedding ideas carelessly. The reality of actually planning a wedding, and preparing for marriage, was sinking in with a tinge of panic.
What do I do? Where do I even begin??

An Intimate Cocktail Dinner reception

I'm honestly adamant about having your typical 8/10-course Chinese reception dinner. Needless to say, after all those types of banquets, I've realised that not many people have their fill of the food anyway. I know it's more out of culture and that every dish signifies fertility, prosperity and happiness for the couple, but it's obviously not me. Nor Lee (despite his name =P). So I'm going to be very thankful that I won't have any family members, nor relatives crying disgrace, if Lee & I didn't have one.

So instead, the direction that we'll be heading would be for a cocktail dinner reception. Not cocktails and dinner, mind you. A stand-up, move around-eat-drink-and-mingle reception. Excuse me for having to spell it out, but this isn't a very common affair for Malaysian weddings. I know of fancy exclusive parties who do cocktail dinners, but I haven't been to one for a wedding.

No reception in KL?

For all those asking... honestly, there are no preparations going on for the wedding at all. Our priority right now is to work on getting my fiancé visa application to move to Australia. And the progress for that is quite happily trucking along, I'd say. We're still compiling all the forms and the things needed to submit the application. And when Lee arrives in KL later this month, we'll be submitting it to the Australian High Commission together. It's approximately three to six months processing time. So pray that we have everything, and that it will get approved in the minimal time.

As for decisions about a reception, I am being pressured by my parents to forgo a reception or celebration in KL. To have my civil registry and convalidation ceremony in Sydney. While that is very ideal right now, because of dire financial constraints, I won't say anything is final. As much as it is a dreamy idea to have a reception that I want planned, it's obviously not practical. And I can't pander to any one else's demands. Although ironically, all my close friends' demands are to have a reception in Sydney and not in KL, too! Ugh. If they're paying for me, I'd gladly. =P

Yes, it's all very frustrating to tell anyone who asks "When's the wedding?" and my reply would be, "No date." I think that's equivalent frustration to people asking a singleton, "When are you getting married?"

Meanwhile, the date for our engagement party is set and preliminary invites have been sent.

Until then...

There will be NO wedding or reception in KL, nor any updates here for a few months. When the wedding happens, I will post photos and a short entry here for memento sake. Thanks for visiting.

Some updates and D-date

I know I've said that there wouldn't be an update until after the wedding, it was only because I'd been really frustrated about the whole waiting game with the visa and all that. Now that I'm finally in Sydney and the ball has started rolling, albeit slowly, I'm a little more relieved.
