International Women's Day

In conjunction with International Women's Day, I've joined in with other fellow female bloggers by dedicating this entry to celebrating women.

I think it's amazing how much the movement has achieved within the century and there could be so much to write about. Yet for me right now, there's only one thing to be appreciative of being female and it's the friendships established with another woman. I personally grew up with stronger ties with my dad than mum, but growing up and discovering myself made me realise how important it is to be friends with your mum and other women around you. No matter how difficult it can be, most times.

You can only learn about being a woman through other women. Men may be there to complement us, but there's only so much they can relate to. I've grown to appreciate my female friends better over the years. Particularly when I've found their compassion and understanding reaches a depth enough to ease the pain and confusion, then make me smile. We're passionate beings and go through life with more emotional attachment to experiences than men. Why we behave in certain ways, we can only understand them through reflections of ourselves by watching other women. Either by accident or by sharing.

A blog entry once hurt a female friend. Only because I had written my heart's pain about our friendship here instead of sharing it with her. When she read it, our friendship was tormented for a while. But then we decided that we had gone through too much together to let our friendship go to waste. The experience gave us a deeper understanding of each other. And it also taught me to be more responsible for my emotions when I write. Being aware that there are friends and loved ones who read my blog, taught me responsibility and maturity. That I should deal with my problems with them first before trying to narrate it here.

Incidentally, it's also this amazing friend's birthday. So I'm glad to have to dedicate this to her, and to our friendship.
