New Aussie Love

Weis bars
from Weis' website
Creamy. Yummy. Delicious. And it was Lee's mum who gave me my first taste of it. The Weis' Raspberries & Cream bar. OMG. Forget flavoured fruity popsicles when you can have the real unadulterated thing! Been craving for this since seeing the ad on tv last week. And Lee finally found the mango cream bar for me this evening! Heee... There's just something about Aussie dairy.

Might as well find new Aussie food loves since I'm still homesick for Malaysian food. I'm still not a big fan of Tim Tams and Vegemite tho. =P And I tried Pinkpau's fave Pods. They honestly taste like Koko Crunch with chocolate filling.

There is this very nice shop/stall where Kinokuniya is located (ground floor) - it's along the walkway leading to Pitt/York St - and it serves very good M'sian food (prawn mee was excellent - very much like getting it from Penang!). ^.^

Was still there when I went to Sydney April last year. The taukehs are from M'sia!

Mei - You talking about the Malaysian place under the Queen Victoria Building by any chance? The big one near Gowings, or has another Malaysian place to eat opened up? When I left Sydney there wasn't many places under Kinokuniya, it had only just opened up.

Do you know of the Asian food hall behind Woolworths at Town Hall? [We used to call it 'Hole in the Wall']

Lily - Yeah, Weis bars are great. If you don't like Tim Tams, maybe Cadbury Double Choc (or triple choc) is the chocolate biscuit for you ... though the Tim Tams which come in different flavours are nice. [Like the Black Forest one, or the Orange one].

mei: tks. will check it out. i've seen a few in the sydney food review sites. one did mention at QVB. have you been to the Kopitiam at Harris St?

dabido: weis bars are gooooooood! heheh... i don't hate Tim Tams. i'm just not a big bikkie fan, generally. save for Mrs Field's choc chip cookies. and that's not Aussie =P hehehe... but the Black Forest Tim Tams sounds interesting.

Dabido: Nah...it's not the one below QVB - that one isn't as nice as the one opposite QVB.

I was in Sydney around 2002 for over a year (tried it then); am not too sure if the eatery I'm referring to had just open. It's at Kino, next to the cafe on the ground floor.

Don't remember seeing the Asian food hall though...being in Town Hall drives me nuts - so many people! @.@

Oooooh. That looks really tempting. Argh. I'm trying to stay away from junkfood. Gotta lose some weight before packing more when I head back home next month =P

Speaking of food, if you like sushis, you gotta check out Makato Sushi Bar on Liverpool Street. I swear they have the best sushis! I'm talking raw fish, full-sized rolls (not slices) and full of flavour! =D

How can you not like vegemite? I can eat it with anything - bread, rice, porridge, drink it as a soup, even. :)

Mei - Yeah, Kino was pretty new in 2002. [I think the building it's in, the City Bank Building if I recall it's name correctly], was only finished in 2001.

Silly Wabbit - Did you ever try Michitaro's? I used to eat there all the time. I think they may have closed the one on Druitt St, but the one in Haymarket is still there. [It's next to one of the Irish Pubs in a building]. There used to be a great vegetarian restaurant that served the best Chilli noodles. It was called Bodhi, and was in Haymarket as well, but it shut down.

Of course, the big White Building in Chinatown also had a great selection of asian food. I liked Mr Don [Japanese] in the food court there.

Dabido — Nope ... Must check it out on my next trip there. Thanks for the tip ;)

There was this other place in Chinatown, but I forgot to look at the name of the eatery (a friend brought me there y'see). It's on the upper floor. And they serve awesome HK-style chicken rice!

you dont like tim tams??? not even the strawberry ones?!

this is not happening. O__O
