Circling Canberra

Arriving on a hot Friday noon, driving into the Canberra brought on that deja vu feeling that we were driving through two townships back home in Malaysia. The low blocks of flats, highly organized road system, unending roundabouts and the fake, ahem.. I mean, man-made lake, reminded me of Shah Alam and Putrajaya. But it was the drive up towards Canberra's Capital Hill that the uncanny resemblance to Putrajaya became obvious. It is of course no surprise that our nation's new capital city's unorginality would be so blatant the more I saw of Canberra. It's only going to take more time for Putrajaya to be where Canberra is since the latter is almost a century old.

National Museum Australia
National Museum from Wikipedia
We dropped in at the National Museum for a look at the cartoon exhibit, which was unfortunately not quite ready. The building was a rather odd shape, with a bicyle ramp for a walkway shelter at the front. You would think that it was an art gallery rather than a museum even with its bright colours. But the inside had its exhibits in very modern fashion, with fun informative and interactive screens and life-like sculptures. And not as dull and dusty as ours.

The wedding was late that Friday evening, so we were off and about Canberra again the next day. This time heading farther out south nearing the border, where I was to meet Lisa for the first time. She prepared an awesome and lovely lunch for three, with a deliciously rich chocolate cake for coffee after. She's not only an artist with the pen, but also with food. We enjoyed her company so much, we even missed heading out to the National Gallery for the Lourve's Egyptian Antiquities exhibit. Well, it was more because we got lost heading back into the city after, and missed the last 4pm entrance. So we decided to head back to Sydney. The exhibit'll be there til late February anyway, so I guess we'll definitely be back again.
