The last remaining bastion of Malaysian independance has left us. Tan Sri Khir Johari, or Pak Khir, passed away after a heart attack this morning. As kind words were exchange about him at Rocky's Bru, little will anyone of my generation know of him and of his comrades in the political arena to whom we owe our almost 50 years of our independance to.

I myself can only vaguely recall stories retold by Patrick of Allahyarham YTM Tunku Abdul Rahman & Pak Khir together. And had I not mentioned his passing to my dad, I don't think I would've remembered who Khir Johari was. My ignorance is not one of bliss, but of a generation who do not know of Malaya, firsthand.
