Malaysia bodoh!
I wonder who will continue to have the last laugh after reading the hottest article in Malaysian cyberspace from The Age, "While Malaysia fiddles, its opportunities are running dry". And after having seen Erna's Backman's Backhand entry about how she's written the columnist to thank him, I definitely agree with him when he said --
And I do hope that some minister decides to attack me or my column - then even more people will read it. It was the most e-mailed article in today's Age newspaper - not bad for an Australian newspaper.
His article definitely hits all the right spots, as a Malaysian reading it, maybe I should be accusing him for calling us a retard to get noticed? What does it take to change our leaders' mindset, and grow up? That we should stop fighting about race issues and take charge of the country's economy. Even a kwai loh ends up calling us bodoh! And he seems to be able to constructively do so because not only is he adept with South East Asia's economies, he's even very familiar with our culture!
Backman's truth is one a lot of Malaysians have taken a tidak apa (careless) attitude towards for the longest time. We don't take advantage of the opportunities enough because we lie completely cynical about the existing political landscape.
While our leaders continue to make race an issue, the rest of us settle for mediocracy in everything we do. There's no struggle to improve ourselves, or to press on for better service as a consumer, or a call for justice as a citizen. The little things we can do to improve society that begins by one single person's decision, and that's ourselves, before we can expect our leaders to know what we want. Instead we whine and talk-cock at the mamak about everything and anything, and end up going back to work like nothing's wrong. We read the news, listen to foreign opinions, we scour the Internet and compare them, realising a lot of which our communist-like leaders have either been completely ignorant of, or have been hiding from us citizen for the longest time. Then again, that's not news now is it?
Yet what do we do about it? Nothing, but watch our neighbours to criticise us. Truly, Malaysia bodoh.

I think a lot of people through out the world feel a little powerless with what their Governments do.
Even the US has realised it's mistakes, and are waking up to the fact that they shouldn't have elected GW in for a second term.
I just hope Australia wakes up to the problem it's Government has caused as well. It's sort of funny, as almost everyone critisizes our Government, but last election they somehow got voted back in.
[Actually, they used the 'terrorist' fear thing to get back in].
Australia also has the problem of fidling while our opportunities burn away.

People do try but in this country, to be heard and to change things isn't so easy as it may seem. We can't even have a peaceful protest without the police being around and etc.
So the next best thing? They leave. :(
