Drifting from Fukuoka

So I'm finally in Japan. I think all the flying and airport transfers got me somewhat jet lagged and tired out that by the time I got here, I felt like I'm half awake. I barely slept on the plane. And my bag got unpacked by the customs officers here because I suspect, when they saw that my passport was last stamped in Bangkok, they thought I was carrying drugs! =( Didn't help that I was travelling alone, I guess. At least it wasn't a really bad experience, cos I was very cooperative and animated in answering their questions.

Once Tomoko got me at the airport, we were off to make our calls to the respective officials and locations Sumolah is scheduled to shoot at from Sunday onwards. It was really an interesting experience, having to nod and bow so much and become part of the Japanese culture and politeness. I had forgotten to take my whole name card stack with me and didn't have enough to give out, despite knowing how the exchange of name cards is such an important meeting ritual.

Work aside, driving through the simple city of Fukuoka made me realise - everything seems smaller here! The roads are narrower, there are lots of small cars, the door frames are smaller, ceilings are lower, a lot of low rise buildings, the hotel rooms are smaller even as superior size... And there are drink vending machines outside on the pavements every where!

I told my BFG he'd definitely feel like Guilliver over here. Heh. Above the fascination of being someplace new, I miss him a lot. I feel like my communication with him's lost without my own handphone. Tomoko's bought some of the cheap Vodafone prepaids already for production, but I haven't quite gotten the hang of the full service features 'cos instructions are all in Japanese. Even Tomoko couldn't figure them out.

Part of me is wishing all of this is over soon enough and I was back in KL counting... 20 more days until he arrives... In the meantime, my idle time is spent thinking - How am I going to tell mum and dad about him?? 'elp...
