Weekend Company - part 2
Saturday nite's company was quite the opposite from Friday. It was all just tokkok over yummy deep fried pig trotters and whisky evening with the most unlikely but hospitable company.
Even though I had met Patrick and his wife Min, on two separate occassions for work, I didn't quite know what to expect over tonite's dinner. But the atmosphere became more relaxed later during drinks at Waikiki.
I thought it was really interesting to listen to this famous voice's behind the scenes stories of when he worked as a radio DJ and while he ran the famous Radio City. But what really struck me was finally listening to his side of the story about what he thought of Show Me The Money. That was the TV show of when I first met and worked with Patrick. I told him in earnest how grateful I was for how he and Afdlin were so professional when I was given to task to direct them for the show. I remember having sleepless nights worrying about how to direct their scenes. It was the ultimate nervousness in the world of a novice director to direct these two industry heavyweights. Or it was just me being anal about having made the right first impression. Knowing Patrick's often misunderstood brashness wasn't even an issue.
Meeting and getting to know what I'd call a senior fellow colleague in the industry doesn't mean glamour to me. It actually means learning from them. It's a real chance for me to see the industry through their eyes. Or even life through their eyes. Especially from someone like Patrick Teoh with such an extensive experience, that includes acting in a Hollywood film (or was it two?)!! And he really made an impression for the last thing he said to me tonite, which was such a compliment to receive. ^_^
Patrick, if only I knew what was good enough for me, I'd really like to think it's all in God's hands.

Hi Zona. Wah! You make it sound like you lead a life of party! party! party! True ah? Yes it was a good night with great company. You had sleepless nights thinking of directing us ah? Afdlin and I had sleepless nights thinking what kind of scripts we'd be given for the next episode :-) Worse nightmare lah. Hollywood film ah? One lah. The other one about the raja and the cikgu I was almost not there la. Thank you for thinking of me as "senior fellow colleague in the industry". Most people just think of me as being a grumpy pain in the neck :-)

wow, all your jobs sound so interesting, not to mention glamorous! make me think i'm just some soul behind a computer all day. i've seen patrick in person twice, once when he went to TIME building looking for the THR office and happened to ask me where it is (that's as interesting as my job can get) and the other during the Merchant of Venice play.
