Wishing everyone a very Merry & Blessed Christmas, with many blessings to come in 2008! This isn't a belated Christmas wish mind you, because Christmas is celebrated from Dec 25th until Epiphany on Jan 6th.

Yes, I'm finally back in Sydney - for good. And we're on our way getting prepped for the wedding - which we decided will be a very quiet and private affair. It's been quite a dizzying transition, but it hasn't quite sunk in yet that I've moved here for good. It's probably the holiday season doing that. We'll see what happens around when the New Year swings in.

Lee and I took a walk around the city on Boxing Day to look at the decorations. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much decked out this year save for a big tree up on Martin Place (photo above). Although we did find this one that shows how Sydney does things differently: instead of a Santa on a sleigh, here's Santa on a boat... In the air, and what is prolly the tallest tree in the city... Hahah... Both were up in the air on a crane at Rozelle Bay.

What is going on with Malaysia, when even lawyers get arrested for "obstruction of traffic" during their march in conjunction with International Human Rights Day?

Lawyers, activists detained for illegal march

KUALA LUMPUR: Police arrested four lawyers and four activists for taking part in an illegal march involving more than 50 protestors this morning.

The protestors carried banners and leaflets in defiance of both official warnings and the Bar Council, which earlier this week withdrew its support for what was its annual Human Rights Day march.

The demonstrators, started the march from the Sogo Shopping Complex at Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman to the Bar Council building at Jalan Raja here.

Dang Wangi Deputy OCPD Supt Che Hamzah Che Ismail said they were arrested under Section 27 (5) of the Police Act 1967 for illegal assembly, Bernama said in a report.

He said the lawyers and activists were taken to the Kuala Lumpur police contingent headquarters for questioning.

"The organiser did not apply for a police permit to hold an assembly. The lawyers and activists also defied police orders to disperse," he told reporters.

Bernama also reported Bar Council president Ambiga Sreenavasan as saying she was disappointed with the police for detaining the eight people for participating in the peaceful walk.

She said the people should be given the freedom to assemble peacefully.

"I believe it would have been a peaceful march if not for the police presence," she said.

Later on Sunday, human rights lawyer Edmund Bon was also detained for allegedly obstructing KL City Hall workers from taking down signs and banners.
